Today with 61 teams/contestants, Diamond Valley once again was available for the public to use the launch ramp. Valley Wide Recreation was the first event to showcase the new launch ramp and we all applaude the efforts of Megan Merchant from Last Chance Bait and Tackle and MWD getting the new ramp poured. We were ALL very excited to once again be having an event at beautiful Diamond Valley Lake....ok today was cloudy and rainy but still through all of the weather it was wonderful to be out there.
We must give the lake staff and the inspectors a high five for a great job in the morning. EVERYTHING went smooth and fast. We were launching by 5:30 a.m. and playing the National Anthem at 6:30 a.m.
There were 53 teams fishing for just bass and a combination of 19 teams fishing for bass and striper. Two anglers fished for trout.
For the trout derby only one angler weighed in his biggest trout and received $60.
The striper derby was well.........strange to say the least. We did weigh in one striper which weighed over 14 pounds BUT this team was not in the striper derby so......we decided since NO ONE weighed in any striper that was in that option, we picked 3 teams that were in the option...randomly by other anglers...and gave the money to them....
The bass event was great. BIG weights compared to last weekend at our NBW Perris event which had 32 teams and only 56 fish weighed in. Today at Diamond Valley Lake there were 216 fish weighed for a total of 754.17. The average big fish per team was 3.49#. The average total weight per team was 12.57#.
Overall, [b][size=18]we paid back $9,745 to the anglers[/size][/b] and [b][size=18]best news of the day[/size][/b] was that
[size=18][b]VALLEY WIDE RECREATION RECEIVED A CHECK FOR $5,470.[/b][/size] This money will go directly to help the kids of Valley Wide Recreation and NOT to administration at all. These are the kinds of charity that are fun to raise money for. [b][size=18]THANK YOU ALL THAT PARTICIPATED[/size][/b] and helped the children from Valley Wide Recreation learn to swim, learn to fish, learn about fire and police safety and play sports that without these scholarships, they would be unable to participate in.
Thank you also to Bill Ponting, Dan & Megan Merchant, Jerry Holden, for helping Mike and I run this event. Our staff Jason Chang, Grady Garrison, William Larson, Trevor Lincoln, Robert Schneider and Dan Delhey brought it all together for a fast and efficient weighin. Thanks again to our dear friend Dale Riggert for offering to help out for this charity event.
The [size=18][b]next tournament at Diamond Valley for National Bass West[/b][/size] will be on [b][size=18]JANUARY 17, 2010[/size][/b]. We will continue our 100% payback and a barbecue during the weigh-ins.
